Backup Changes

From Version 3.6, the standard backup uses the built-in zip compression function. Previously backups were done simply by copying the data file(s) without any compression.

Options have now been added to allow creating backups using Winzip (if this is installed), or to create a backup by directly copying the data file without zipping. These options are activated by selecting a checkbox on the bottom left of the backup dialog box. The main purpose of these options it to provide the client with alternative methods. It is anticipated that the standard built-in zip compression process will be used most of the time.

We also reviewed the ActiveXZip installation procedure to avoid a problem where a failed installation prevented the client from opening the database. The client can now still open the database, but will get references errors. The list of references can be viewed by clicking Help > Technical Support > Display references. Clients experiencing this problem should contact us for assistance.
