ASA Workshop

The ASA Practice Management Workshop was held at the Citigate Hotel Sydney on March 18th. There was no separate function for Access Anaesthetics clients this year.

There were about 70 attendees in total of whom about 20 were Access Anaesthetics clients. It was good to catch up with people and meet a few AA clients I'd never met. There was a decent microphone this time so we could all hear Mark Sinclair's talk. He went through all the items that the ASA tried to have incorporated into Medicare. All were rejected. There were a couple of talks about patient complaints - one was quite good, from the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman.

The Medicare talk was much like previous years - very enthusiastic presenters who were keen to help, but who couldn't answer all the questions. They provided contact details and promised to follow up on questions raised.

The ASA is going to some lengths to formalise their association with practice managers and got everyone to fill in a contact details form as a first step. They plan to have much more info on their website, and to keep in touch with us with relevant information. There were no handouts at the meeting, but the powerpoint notes are going to be posted on the website in due course.

The hotel was pleasant, the lunch adequate, and this time there was afternoon tea and even drinks afterwards. This provided a good opportunity to mingle with other practice managers and AA clients.
